Do you find it difficult to download apps larger than 150MB via cellular data?

Well, just as there’s a very good explanation as to why you are experiencing this limitation, there are also practical ways to bypass the “150MB restriction on cellular data problem”. We shall be discussing all these and more on today’s article.

These solutions are easy to execute and you don’t have to be a Technology expert to be able to achieve the objective; all that is required of you is determination and attention to every detail in this article. But before we learn how to solve this issue, let’s find out the reason why you can’t download apps over 150MB without WiFi on iPhone.

Previously in 2013, iOS 7 users were restricted to downloading items no larger than 50MB unless they did so over Wi-Fi. Such restriction was introduced to prevent users from using an excessive amount of cellular data.

Then in 2017, with the release of iOS 11, Apple announced a change in their app store policy which led to an increase in limit, letting users download more apps from the App Store using their cellular network.

The restriction is likely dependent on several factors such as the network provider and plan you have as well as the region you are in. some users are not allowed to download up to 150mb while others have unlimited freedom to download upto 150mb and beyond.

Cellular download Limit

If you are restricted, you would have to wait until the iPhone or iPad was connected to a Wi-Fi network before you can download apps larger than 100MB or 150MB which is also not far from what ios 7 users experienced back then. I personally don’t think this is fair since some of us don’t have regular access to a Wi-Fi network.

If you have enough cellular data and need download apps above 100MB or 150MB, don’t give up, because the purpose of this article is to explain nifty workarounds which will enable you to bypass the limitations set by Apple successfully.

How To Download Apps Over 150MB

First, search for the app you want from the app store and get set to download. From there, tap the Install button and confirm with either Face ID or your App Store password. After that, you will receive a notification stating that informing you that the item you wish to download is over 150MB and you will need a Wi-Fi network to download the app.

Don’t worry, simply tap, Ok and then go back to the Home screen.

From your home screen, you will see the icon of the app you wish to download, prompting you to connect to a Wi-Fi. When you see the icon, simply follow the steps below:

  • Go to the Settings app on your phone and tap General
  • Still under General, open Date & Time and make sure “Set Automatically” is disabled
  • Tap the Date and try moving the date forward by a week or more
  • Go back to home screen

If it worked, you will see “loading” as an icon with a progress bar on your home screen and also on the app store. Though I advise you use this method carefully when necessary (absence of Wi-Fi) as you may incur extra charges when using cellular data. As soon as the app has been downloaded, go back to settings, adjust time and date to make them work properly.

If the above method didn’t work for you, don’t lose hope as there exists another simple and efficient method which will aid you download apps of over 150mb using cellular data. This other method will require the use of a MiFi Router.

MIfi Router

MiFi is a brand name used to describe a wireless router that acts as mobile Wi-Fi hotspot (Wikipedia). Not all routers work with a phone cable. Infact, one of the advantages of a router is that you can insert any SIM card, from anywhere in the world, inside it (provided the router is not locked). In addition, as u use a worldwide data SIM or a local SIM in it, you get the lowest rates.

Following these steps to download Apps over 150MB with cellular data using a MiFi:

  • Immediately its charged, simply insert a sim card and switch it on.
  • Now on your iPhone, click on the list of available WiFi networks.
  • Enter the default password or the new password you created in order to gain access to the network.
  • Go to the app store and download the app you want.

If you don’t want to use a MiFi, you can insert a sim card into another phone, then apply step 2  down to step 4.
