Gionee A1 Summary and Introduction

Released in April 2017, the Gionee A1 is a mid-range smartphone targeted at users who love taking a lot of selfies – talk about Instagram addicts. Gionee A1 parades a premium, solid design, robust front-facing camera with selfie flash and long-lasting battery, amongst other impressive features.

Gionee seem to be all out to improve its users selfie experience. At launch, President of Gionee, William Lu confirmed it too. He said, “As a consumer-oriented smartphone manufacturer, we hope to set up the evolution of the selfie experience.”

Both the A1 and A1 Plus comes with LED flash on the front and rear.

There’s also a new and unique feature called “The bokeh-selfie mode” on the devices. According to Gionee, the bokeh-selfie mode would enable users to blur backgrounds while keeping the face in focus – resulting in artistic, studio-quality photos.

The processes of the Gionee A1 is powered by the Helio P 10 octa – core processor while the A1 Plus houses a more modern 64 -bit Helio P 25 octa – core processor with 2.5 GHz speed. A Mali- T 880 MP 4 GPU handles graphical processes on the A1 and A1 Plus.

Price: How much does Gionee A1 cost?

You can get the Gionee A1 in the US for $230 while the price on Canada starts at $288 depending on online retailer you choose from below. In Australia, the price starts at $293 but the price of Gionee A1 in UK is £189 while the EU countries can buy Gionee A1 for €199. In Africa, you can buy the Gionee A1 in Nigeria for ₦78,000 and Kenya for KSh 22,000 while in Asia, specifically India, the price of Gionee A1 is RS 14,200.

It is obvious that Gionee aimed to create a durable device with this one. The Gionee A1 sports an elegant chassis made of aviation-grade metal. But the design is such that you will not have the device slipping out of your hand, with contoured edges and camber rear. At about 8.3 millimetres in thickness, the Gionee A1 looks somewhat slim.

As for the display, you get a large 5.5-inch In-Cell unit. The AMOLED touchscreen has a Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. It enjoys Corning Gorilla Glass protection.


The Gionee A1 Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display occupies approximately 70.6% of the smartphone body, setting the screen display size at 5.5 inches with screen resolution at 1080 by 1920 pixels and screen density, PPI at 401 pixels per inch.


With an octa-core MediaTek MT6755 Helio P10 processor under the hood, you can expect powerful performance from the Gionee A1. The 64-bit CPU, having a maximum speed of 2.0 GHz, comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage.

You can expand storage by up to 256 GB. Gionee A1 boots Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. This is overlaid with Gionee’s Amigo 4.0 skin, which allows you to customise the phone to your liking.


The main highlight of the Gionee A1 is in the camera department. It comes with a robust 16-megapixel selfie shooter with an f/2.0 lens. This features selfie flash which ensures you get quality shots at any time, even at night.

On the rear, the Gionee A1 features a 13-megapixel Sony IMX 258 snapper with phase detection autofocus and LED flash. This camera looks like one to deliver spectacular regular images.
